The foundations for ROTC - Toronto (Righteously Outrageous Twirling Corps)
were laid by founder, Michael Grimes, in the Fall of 1994. Modeled after
similar groups in the United States, we were the first group of its kind in Canada.
Based in Toronto's lesbian and gay community, ROTC - Toronto has gone on to become
one of the most successful ROTC units in North America.
The not-for-profit performance-based organization is comprised of both men and women who form a
modern-day colour guard. We twirl flags, spin rifles, dance and utilize other props to create a
stunning visual production, choreographed to some of today's hottest sounds. While we have fun participating
in Pride parades held in various communities, we also enjoy proudly acting as ambassadors for the lesbian
and gay community by taking our show to other festival parades held in southern Ontario.
Since debuting in Oshawa's Fiesta Festival Parade in 1995, ROTC - Toronto has garnered numerous
awards and become a crowd favourite. We have performed for millions of people throughout Ontario,
Quebec and New York State, and although the image and sound has changed over the years, our desire
to perform and entertain people remains constant.
